Tom Oliver
Director of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Division
American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Thomas (Tom) Oliver, joined the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in March 211 as the Director of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Division. In this role, Tom focuses on guideline development, quality improvement, and staffs the ASCO Clinical Practice Guideline Committee (CPGC). The CPCG is responsible for the review and approval of all ASCO guideline products, including de novo clinical practice guidelines, guideline updates, provisional clinical opinions, endorsements, and adaptations.
Tom is interested in guideline development streamlining, creating efficiencies, and continuous quality improvement. He actively promotes collaborative efforts with other guideline development organizations to reduce duplication of guideline development efforts and increase uptake and applicability to a variety of stakeholders. He believes through standardization, streamlining, and collaboration, guideline quality and productivity can be increased significantly and used to improve the care of people with cancer.
Since Tom joined ASCO, the Guidelines Program has revised their procedures and methods in a variety of areas related to streamlining, collaboration and quality improvement. As a result, productivity, collaborative efforts with multiple organizations and guideline quality has been steadily increasing over time.
Tom completed Clinical Research Associate training at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario; Research Analyst training at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario; and received his BA in Sociology BA from McMaster University.
