Sara Hiom

Sara Hiom is Director of Cancer Intelligence for GRAIL Europe, reporting to Sir Harpal Kumar, having joined in October 22. Prior to this she was with Cancer Research UK for twenty years, ten of these as Director responsible for Diagnosis, Clinical Engagement and Cancer Intelligence. Sara shaped the charity’s first early diagnosis strategy in 21, partnered with the Govt/ NHS on delivery and developed teams to support primary care in cancer detection as well instigating national data collections to support research and analysis and better understand cancer pathways. She headed up the secretariat for Professor Sir Michael Marmot’s Independent Review of Breast Screening and led the UK arm of the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership from 21-2. Her early biomedical research, following her BSc in Genetics from University College London she worked for six years with the Medical Research Council.
