Marty Becker

W. Marston (Marty) Becker served until April 22 as chair of the board of QBE Insurance Group, headquartered in Sydney, Australia writing over $15 billion in premium through operations on five continents.

Marty is a seasoned insurance executive with a career that spans 35 years in leadership roles principally as chair and/or CEO for publicly traded and private insurance, reinsurance, and insurance brokerage organizations.

He currently serves on the board of Axis Capital, Encova Mutual Insurance Company, Amynta Group, Dorado Insurance in Hamilton, Bermuda, Source One Financial, and the Mountain Companies – a southeastern US construction firm. Marty also serves on the advisory board of American Securities Fund and Cohesive Capital. Prior this, he was chair and CEO at Alterra Capital, Trenwick Group Limited, and Orion Capital Corporation. Previously, Marty served as president and CEO of McDonough Caperton Insurance Group Inc.

Marty’s non-profit activities include the board of governors of West Virginia University and the Clay Center for the Arts (chair) with previous service as a director of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, The Reinsurance Association of America, the American Insurance Association, Hartford Hospital, West Virginia/United Hospital System, and the Blanchette Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

Various awards have been bestowed on Marty including the West Virginia University Academy of Distinguished Alumni, the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame, the Leading CPA in Business Award of the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Delta Tau Delta National Achievement Award.

Marty earned his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Science degrees at West Virginia University. He is also a certified public accountant.
