John Lister is an experienced finance professional with more than three decades of experience in the insurance and asset management businesses. Before retiring from Aviva in 2016, he was chief financial officer for its life business, having previously served as group chief risk officer. He is currently chair of Phoenix’s life companies board, chairs the risk committee for Old Mutual Ltd. in South Africa, and chairs the audit and risk committee of Saga SSL.
He is a qualified actuary, married with four grown children, and resides in York and London.
