Jan Carendi

Jan Carendi has a career that covers over 45 years in financial services. He is a serial disrupter and intrepeneur, having founded 17 insurance companies in 13 countries for Skandia’s international operations as Chief Executive of the Skandia Long Term Savings division. As executive chair for these companies, Jan was responsible for cultivating a high trust culture and for building C-suites teams that drove the business’ organic growth to become a world leader in Unit Linked Life and Pension (Europe and Asia) and Variable Annuities (US).
Jan was the first non-German native to be appointed to the executive board of Allianz SE. He was the CEO of Allianz Americas from 2003 until 2008. Following his role at Allianz Americas, Jan was managing director and chair of Global Insurance Origination at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, based in London, which required fit and proper approval by the then FSA. As chair, Jan built strong relationships with chairs and CEOs of global insurance companies. From 2010 he is Senior Advisor to the CEO of Solera- a tech firm in claims management; from 2013 to 2017, he was NED chair of Allianz plc, Dublin. From 2014 to 2018, Jan was the senior advisor to the global CEO of Sompo Holdings, Tokyo, Japan. Since 2019 Jan is INED Chair of Dunas Capital Madrid.
Jan is senior advisor to the CEO at MSI International, and chair of the board designate for MSIG Europe. Jan also serves as a mentor for C-suite executives. He is also a strong advocate for hi touch/high tech business models and was instrumental in launching automated claims platforms for P&C companies. Jan’s former roles include non-executive director of Lombard International (now Utmost Group).
Jan earned his civil economics degree from Gothenburg School of Economics, conducted post graduate studies at IMI of Geneva, and was awarded a PhD hc from Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, Connecticut.
