Executive experience: David retired from AIG in April 216 after seven and a half years as the Group EVP and CFO. David joined American General in February 2 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Life Division. Following AIG’s acquisition of American General in 21, he was also named chief operating officer for the combined US domestic life insurance companies. He was elected vice president, life insurance for AIG in 23 before being named vice president and CFO, global life insurance in 24. In 25, David was named group comptroller, an office he held until October 28 when he was appointed to the position from which he retired in 216. As CFO for AIG, David oversaw the restructuring of the company, including over 5 divestitures, debt reductions, and maturity profile rebalancing, repayment of the US Government support with an approximate $23 billion profit, and led the finance team transformation of technology, processes, and talent.

Prior to joining American General, David held numerous positions at General American Life Insurance. Prior to joining General American, David was vice president and controller for Family Guardian Life, a Citigroup Company, and an audit supervisor with Coopers & Lybrand.

Additional information: David holds a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Missouri—Columbia and an MBA in finance and economics from the University of Chicago. Additionally, he is a certified public accountant and is a fellow in the Life Office Management Association. David has served on the federal advisory committee on insurance and currently serves on the University of Missouri Trulaske College of Business strategic development board. He also serves on the investment advisory committee for the University of Missouri.
