Executive experience: David Ching served as the senior vice president, chief information officer for Safeway Inc. for over 19 years. Safeway is a Fortune 1 company, and one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America with over 1,6 stores in the United States and Canada. In support of its stores, Safeway has an extensive network of distribution, manufacturing, and food processing facilities.
Prior to joining Safeway in 1994, David was the general manager – North America for BACG (British American Consulting Group), a software/consulting firm focusing on the distribution and retail industry. From 1979 to 1993, David worked for Lucky Stores Inc, a subsidiary of the American Stores Companies, and was the senior vice president of Information Systems in the last five years. He also worked in systems development at Bell Canada and Control Data Canada in Toronto between 1975 to 1979.
David has been serving as a director of The TJX Companies, Inc. (a $26 billion off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. and worldwide) since 27. He also served on the Board of Directors of PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. from 25 to 26.
Additional information: David’s educational background includes an M.S. degree in management sciences from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University; an M.S. in computer sciences from the University of California at Berkeley; and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
