Executive Experience: Burl East has taken a leadership role in many aspects of the REIT industry, sitting on NAREITs associate board of governors, co-chairing the annual convention, representing the industry before the US House of Representatives and participating in hundreds of public and private transactions. He brings 3 years of experience as an investment banker and securities analyst. Burl is the CEO of American Assets Investment Management (AAIM). Prior to AAIM, Burl was managing principal and founder of Silver Portal Capital, an investment bank comprised of professionals previously associated with Wachovia Securities. Silver Portal largely focused on real estate programs financed by very large and sophisticated investors, including CalPERs, CalSTRs, The State of Michigan Retirement Systems, New York State Retirement System, the ATT Pension Fund, the Utah Retirement System, and other large investors. Before Silver Portal, Burl built and managed the real estate securities business of Wachovia and its predecessor companies.

Additional information: Burl currently serves on the leadership council of The University of Southern California Lusk Center, and in prior years served on the board of advisors of Senior Resource Group. He has a BA and MBA from Loyola University and holds a CFA designation. In 1996, 1997, and 1998 Burl was recognized by Dow Jones as an outstanding sell side analyst. He has lectured at the University of Southern California, the University of San Diego, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School, and the University of Wisconsin. In 26, Burl won the Tony Award for Best Musical as co-producers of Jersey Boys.
