Amy Zale

Amy Zale is the Acting Director for the Division of Clinical Laboratory Improvement and Quality, in the Quality, Safety and Oversight Group, which is part of the Center for Clinical Standards within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Prior to joining CMS in 215, Amy served as the Laboratory Manager in the Department of Wound Infections at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) as well as the Laboratory Manager of the Multidrug Resistant Surveillance Network Laboratory (MRSN). In her current position as Acting Director of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) program, Amy has been leading efforts to develop flexible regulatory policies for laboratories during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency in order to ensure laboratories are able to provide accurate and reliable test results. She is an American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certified Medical Technologist with 26 years of experience in Clinical Microbiology.
