The audit profession and corporate boardrooms are undergoing significant transformation in the wake of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and new compliance regulations. Responsibility for audit function oversight has shifted from corporate management to the audit committee of the board of directors.
In response, "Big Four" accounting firm Ernst & Young sponsored and Tapestry Networks produced an Audit Committee Leadership Network (ACLN). Its purpose: To promote positive change in corporate governance, improving the performance of audit committees and enhancing trust in financial markets. Its members: The audit chairs of FORTUNE's America's Most Admired Companies.
The first ACLN has been (and continues to be) a success, prompting E&Y to sponsor additional networks - regionally, nationally, and internationally.
Audit committee networks produced by Tapestry currently include:
Audit Committee Leadership Network (ACLN) in North America
European Audit Committee Leadership Network (EACLN)
Members are audit chairs of leading European companies, listed in FORTUNE's Global Most Admired Companies, with greater than 8 billion euros in annual revenues
The following networks are regional extensions of the North American ACLN for audit chairs of blue chip companies in their respective regions.
